Family therapist Marianne Clyde is all about empowerment. A best-selling author, international traveler and a purveyor of all things positive, she launched a new nonprofit, Be the Change Foundation, in 2017 as a vehicle to give women the go power they need to build better lives for themselves, their families and their communities.
Offering relief work overseas only bolstered her vision for women in Fauquier County.
Boosting her board with additional members, soliciting donations and active fundraising has now positioned the foundation to debut a 12-week series of training classes focused on women who want to start a home-based business or move to the next level of an existing business.
“The largest part of our program is based in helping to educate women on how to form a business and run it successfully,” Clyde said, noting that candidates who successfully complete the 12-week series of classes will be eligible to apply for a small-business loan.
“Loans will be paid back with interest so that the program can be sustainable, enabling us to give more and more loans to qualified applicants,” said Clyde who has put together a cadre of local professionals that will address topics like branding your business, understanding profit and loss, keeping the books and the legal mechanics of setting up shop. In addition to the training classes, each session will begin with local business owners sharing their stories.
“Right now, the classes are focused on women living in Fauquier County,” she said. She hopes to eventually expand the program to other counties.
Cost for the 12-week class which begins March 6 at Lord Fairfax Community College is $250. Scholarships are available. The complete series of classes can be viewed at www.bethechangefoundation.us.
Perhaps you are a stay-at-home mom with a penchant for baking, a recent high-school or college graduate, or one of those unretired seniors ready to launch your dream or you’d like to take your existing business to the next level, this series of classes could be the kick start for a new path.
